Waverly is the county seat of Pike County and contained within the city limits are the historic Pike County Courthouse built in the 1860s and still in use by the Pike County Court of Common Pleas and the modern Pike County Government Center, which houses most of Pike County's offices in a convenient one-stop location at 230 Waverly Plaza.

Parks in the city include Canal Park, Walnut Street Park, St. Mary's Lane, and the newly-built Bristol Park, located on an 86-acre site adjacent to Bristol Village, a beautiful retirement center that is itself one of the crown jewels of the City of Waverly. 

20131025113757283_imageWithin minutes of downtown Waverly, Lake White provides recreational opportunities for area residents and visitors alike. This picturesque lake, nestled in the rugged hills of southern Ohio, was built during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration. Previously, the area that is now Lake White was part of the Ohio and Erie Canal system.

Golfing is offered at the nearby Dogwood Hills Golf Course and Big Beaver Creek Golf Club.

20131025113814221_imageThe main branch of the Garnet A. Wilson Public Library of Pike County is located in Waverly. This full-service library offers many services to its patrons and offers an extensive collection of fiction and nonfiction books, large print books, audio and video collections, magazines, journals, newspapers, internet and WiFi access, community meeting room, reference assistance, test preparations guides, and much more. There are lots of materials available for teens and children, including summer food service program, books, books on CD, weekly story time, weekly craft time, summer reading program, teen book club and more. 2013102511383350_imagePike Heritage Museum, located at 110 South Market Street, contains written history as well as artifacts from various eras of Pike County's history.

Area Service Clubs include the Eagles, Waverly Lions Club, American Legion, and Amvets.

Some of the largest employers in the Waverly area include KIRCHOFF Automotive, Adena Pike Medical Center, Rural King, Walmart and Kroger. 

The offices of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, pikechamber.org, are located at 12455 State Route 104 in Waverly as are the offices for Pike County tourism, (Visit Pike County, Ohio).

The Waverly City School District encompasses 119 square miles and opened a new K-12 campus in 2004. Waverly High School is in Division 3 for both baseball and football and is in the Southern Ohio Conference.

Waverly is located just 15 miles south of Chillicothe (pop. of approximately 22,000) on U.S. Route 23 and only 65 miles south of the state capital of Columbus.
