MESSAGE FROM MAYOR HENDERSON: Be aware of new traffic ordinances

In an effort to alleviate congestion downtown and to prevent damage to our streets, Waverly Village Council passed an ordinance governing semi-truck routes through town.

On the south side of Route 23, trucks going between Route 220 (Bridge Street) and Route 23 must use West Second Street. This means they must proceed on Route 23/Emmitt Ave all the way to the traffic light at Second Street and Route 23 and must not use Pride Drive.

On the North side of Route 23, trucks going between Route 220 (North Street) and Route 23 must use East Street.

All local traffic on the South side of Route 23 (for example, trucks going to Klinker’s Hardware) must use Lock Street.

All other streets are prohibited to semi-trucks.

In another effort to help traffic move through town, Waverly Village Council has passed an ordinance, effective June 1, 2024, to prevent left turns from Market Street (both sides) onto Route 23 between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The signage for this has been ordered and should be put up soon by the Waverly Street Department.
